Sydney Walsh RN
Following the death of an ex WWII member of the RN Sydney Walsh, the local Yeovil undertaker put out an appeal for any serving or veteran matelots to attend the commemoration of Sydney’s life. Sydney didn’t have many direct family, in fact only four attended.
Alongside a contingent from RNAS YEOVILTON, there were two TCA members, Chris Hukins MBE and myself.
The RBL Riders branch escorted the hearse through the streets of Yeovil and there was a helicopter fly past from RNAS YEOVILTON.
Sydney died aged 97yrs and was a Normandy Veteran, he had an amazing career, Dunkirk, Juno Beach, sunk on HMS EAGLE, and he had the Italy Star, African Star, Arctic Star, Atlantic Star and others.
It was a humbling experience for all of those who attended, and Yeovil Crematorium was packed to the gunnels.
The TCA was well represented.
