HMS Fittleton Remembrance Service at HMS President
On Tuesday the 20th September 2016 a memorial service for those lost when HMS Fittleton sank in the North Sea 40 years ago was held at HMS President London Division RNR.
VIPs included Mr Kenneth Olisa OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, Rear Admiral Simon Williams CVO, Flag Officer Flag Officer Reserves and Commodore Martin Quinn, Commander Maritime reserves.

Mr and Mrs Wood attended the service. Mrs Pippa Wood is the sister of the late Chris Hales TCA Member and one time Ton Talk editor, a survivor of the tragedy.
Anne Creasy and Commander Steve Quantrill, son of Radio Operator Patrick Quantrill (among the lost) described how they heard the news and the support received from RNR friends and colleagues. Other speakers stressed the courage and resilience of Fittleton’s crew and how the modern Reserves follow in their tradition.
The evening concluded with an impressive display by the Royal Marines Corps of Drums and Sunset Ceremony.
