INFO**

The trident badge shown as the 3rd MCM Squadron  funnel badge illustration was originally the other way up. It was first used pointing ‘DOWN’ by the 50th MSS (Portland AUWE Trials Squadron). It was introduced in 1960 when Lt Cdr ‘Bimbo’ Churchill was appointed to the command of the BRONINGTON. He was being re-traded into general service after failing his ‘Perisher’ as a submariner. He had previously served in HMS/M TRIDENT. This gave the idea for for funnel badge but pointing down to symbolise spearing the mines below the water.

RJH Griffiths Lt Cdr RN (Ret’d)

1st Lt of HMS’s HIGHBURTON and CLARBESTON December 1960-August 1962.

Not a funnel badge are any of you the proud owner of a Blackfoot Car Badge ?

  1. The 11th MSS during confrontation used 1st mcm funnel badge probably because crews flown out from 1st to crew 11th until permanent crews flown out. See Randle collection picture of HMS Picton in archives

  2. Wondering if you can help looking for members who served in MCM 11 during the Falklands 82

    • Colin,
This might be a bit difficult for as you know Ton men were transferred to STUFT vessels.
Dennis Cook our membership secretary might be able to assist. E-mail him and give it a try.
I can place a request on the website if you are ok with me supplying and/or linking any replies to your e-mail address.
Let me know what you think.

      Best wishes
      Bob

  3. Re Fishery Protection. No mention of us being based in Port Edgar.

  4. Hello, I have just looked at your funnel insignias for TON Class and I notice there is not one which HMS WILTON wore when attached to BRNC Dartmouth, a picture of Britannia. I am mentioning this as I have a slide of her paying off on 26 July 1994 which clearly shows this on her funnel.
    Best regards,

    Alan

    • Thanks for contacting us Alan. I know of the Britannia badge and I think we have a copy somewhere but is there any chance you could scan the slide and send us a copy please. In the meantime I will have a look at our collection.
      Best wishes
      Bob

    • I cannot seem to find how to send an attachment to you, please advise how I do this so I can send you the scanned slide you would like.
      Regards,
      Alan

    • Alan try sending it as an attachment to my e-mail address fenton1135@gmail.com
You will see a paper clip in the task bar of your e-mail message page.
If all else fails you could loan the picture to me so that I can scan it into the archive.

      Regards
      Bob

  5. The car badge I received off Oliver Wright many, many years ago….
